Sporting 87’s Under 18 team will head into the 2018/2019 season with a new coaching team in place as they look to consolidate on the Club’s best ever finish in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League. The coaching team has grown for the season ahead with Julian Read now having the assistance of Neil Van Holland, Nathan Banks and Jack Warnock, allowing Sporting 87 first team manager Jon Warnock to concentrate on the first team while maintaining oversight of those players progressing on their journey towards adult football.
Van Holland has returned to coaching having previously coached at Reading FC’s community programme in the early 2000s, and Nathan Banks has been leading Sporting 87’s community presence, is a Club Academy PDC coach and was first team Player of the Year for the 2017/18 season.
Jack Warnock has already begun leading the team through the first phase of pre-season, utilising his coaching and sports science qualifications to increase the players’ base levels of strength, agility, and cardio capacity.
There are still some places in the squad available and anyone wishing to get involved should make contact via the Club at Admin@Sporting87.co.uk or call 07983 223723.
Van Holland stated: “Having started working with the team in the new year I see a lot of potential, and am excited to have a full pre-season working with Julian and the team. We know we will be playing against some good opposition, but we are confident in the continued growth of the team.”
Sporting 87’s Football Development Director and First Team Manager, Jon Warnock, said: “I am delighted with the team of coaches we have looking after the Thurlow Nunn U18 side. It is very pleasing that we have a number players progressing on the pathway into the senior teams from our Aspire sessions, and then into the adult session from our U18 Thurlow Nunn team. Over half the players in the adult teams played for a Sporting youth team, which is something we are very proud about, and the Thurlow Nunn team are an important part of that.”
