About Sporting 87
Sporting 87 is a football club based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The club welcomes players of all ages and abilities, and while many of our teams play at the highest standards of regional football, the club is passionate about caring for members, not only as football players but also as people.
As a club are committed to providing the very best football opportunities and experiences for everyone, from age 3 to 73, and covering all abilities, both male and female. There are currently more than 600 children and 100 adults enjoying football on a weekly basis, but more are welcome. There's a place for everyone at Sporting 87.
Founded in 1987
It began with just one adult team playing in the Bury and District League. There are now more than 30 youth teams representing the club, plus three adult teams competing in the Macron Suffolk & Ipswich League, a ladies team and many social football activities including walking football.
Sporting 87 is a football club with a passion for football, both on and off the pitch. More than 50 coaches work with youth teams from Under-7s to Under-18s playing in the Suffolk Youth League. All coaches are FA qualified and DBS checked. At the pinnacle of that pyramid, the very best youth players represent the club in the Under-18 Thurlow Nunn Youth League playing against the very best players in the region outside the professional football academies.
Leaders Programme
Sporting 87's Football Leaders programme helps give young boys and girls the opportunity to discover their passion and develop their character within football, whether that be through coaching, refereeing or helping out in other activities for the club.
The club also provides opportunities for our coaches to progress in their coaching development by putting them through the structure of Football Association qualification courses. There are currently several coaches who have achieved their UEFA B (Level 3) coaching qualification working within the club. Sporting 87 also provides young referees the opportunity to develop their learning through the FA courses.
